When They Cry and Defying Tropes and Expectations

As I’ve been thinking about WTC recently, this topic has been coming up again and again. I don’t know if it’s intentional, or just a byproduct of good writing, but here are a few of the ways in which I’ve observed WTC subverting tropes and expectations. (I put this all in the post originally but was getting an error message so I’ve made the text a few images instead. Be warned, there are full series spoilers for both Higurashi and Umineko, and others should tag their responses.)

Feel free to elaborate, discuss or bring up your own, whether you’re in a position to read the above or not! I look forward to hearing others’ thoughts.

Hm, I’m not exactly sure if Umineko subverts the horror genre so much as it subverts the fantasy genre.
I mean, with the exception of EP7’s tea party , there is very little instance of what I would consider to be “horror” in Chiru.
