Already at the semifinal day! Time really does fly, doesn’t it? Well we’re not done yet!

07th Poetry

For this challenge we want you to write a poem, from the first person perspective of a 07th character in any scene or context you want. The context and speaking character should be recognizable, but feel free to clarify it with a comment in your submission. As for what kind of poem… entirely up to you! Just don’t go overboard on the length~

4 points for first, 3 for second, 2 for third and fourth, and 1 for late submissions. As always.

His bat flew into the air.
There I was forcing him onto the ground pinned,
waiting for my final strike.
Sitting there calmly,
as if it did not matter.

With one final stroke
I would win.
I would…
I would kill my friend.

Why did things turn out like this?
Where my friends have all turned against me?
Why did things turn out like this?
Without a shred of hope?
Why did things turn out like this?
Where I am to kill Kei.

The cicadas cried,
Crying their song of mourning,
the song of warning,
the song of memories.

Whose fault is it,
that the happy days are gone?
Whose fault is it,
that we are split in two?
Whose fault is it,
if this blade cuts through flesh?

Have I done this?
Where I am here to convince them,
Where I am here to face them,
Where I am here to kill them.

Have they ever helped me?
When my father was being tricked?
Have they ever helped me?
When I was hiding from those who saught me?
Have they ever helped me?
When I was desperately trying to reach them?

I’ve only been hurting them,
while they stood there,
smiling,
waiting for me to come back.

I want them back,
with all the happy days.
I want them back,
with all the happy memories.
I want them back,
with all of us smiling.

My heart pounding,
My cheeks wet with tears,
I managed to say,
“I don’t want this.”

Kasai’s Times

I lost a fight one time.

I’m too injured to fight like that next time.
I wonder if my feelings reached you, at that time.
I wonder if there was some way I could have won, that time.
I wished I could steal your smile from him, at that time.
I wanted to make it mine, to look at every day, to bathe in it for all time.
When you gave that smile to him instead, hidden behind my own smile I was having a bad time.

But the moment of defeat wasn’t the worst time.
Pain is a thing that can happen at any time.
When you look at me with pity, that’s the worst time.
The wounds still hurt, even though it’s been a long time.

Watching over your daughter is an interesting time.
When she laughs, it’s a great time.
When I see her fire, she reminds me of you at that time.
When she looks at me the way a daughter should look at a father, it’s a beatiful time.
When I remember that I’m not, it’s a painful time.

Now there’s another fight, and I think, maybe, this is my time.
For you, and for her, I want to win this one time.

I won’t lose this time.

Anything can remember what it once was, even if it is torn to shreds
At least, that’s what the Endless Witch told me
Animated objects given a soul by another cannot reform without acceptance
Acceptance from the original creator, not from a dear friend
Angry Mother, you don’t realize that he was always there to keep me company while you worked, why did you make him if you were only going to tear him up later
Anyone who keeps me company while I’m alone gets broken by you
Alone, at school when the other kids pick on me, at home when you work late nights
Another late night, a different convenience store to get dinner
“A stuffed animal will make you memorable, leave him at home”
Actually, anyone would remember a little girl who travels to different stores
Almost every night, eventually I started to get free things
Amazingly, you still would find things to get mad at me for
Another sweep of your hand brought a ceramic rabbit friend to the floor
Another night of me crying at the loss of a friend, the other rabbits joining me that night
Almost every night he kept me company while you were gone, kept me from many tantrums
Almost everyday, at least one person tells me magic isn’t real
Always, always I answer it is real, it must be real
Annoyance and anger sometimes win and my classmates become afraid of me
Afraid that maybe magic does exist, and they’ve been very mean to someone who can use it

Kari: I imagined Battler rapping this to Beato’s face. Which is a wonderful mental image =P
Sera: There were some interesting word choices and some lines that I really liked.
Vyse: Good job on capturing Battler’s confusion.

Kari: Great ode to an underappreciated character. Gotta love Kasai.
Sera: Man, I just love Kasai. I like how you managed to end every line with time.
Vyse: You captured his character really well here.

Kari: Such a wonderful depiction of Maria’s tragic day-to-day life…
Sera: Even with good poetry like this, I still won’t like Maria.
Vyse: Not gonna lie, a tear formed while reading this.

Kari: …just beautiful.
Sera: This was fantastic. Such a dramatic scene in such beautiful language.
Vyse: My co-hosts informed me that this is Tsumihoroboshi related, so I didn’t read out of spoiler paranoia ^^;
