Execution by Fire - [Initial Discussion]

I’d like to invite the people of Rokkenjima to an experimental gameboard I thought up a while ago. I can’t guarantee the concept is good, but I won’t know what to fix without experimenting. The game itself is designed to be a quick contest in creativity. The players are given a murder scenario with many holes open for interpretation. All players come up with an explanation of how the murder happened, and then a jury votes on who came up with the best explanation.(There’s one more mechanic involved, but I’ll bring that up during the game).

For the game, I need 5 players and at least 5 people willing to be the jury. The game is primarily about writing a solution that people will vote for, not necessarily the correct one, so keep that in mind if you want to play. The jury won’t need to do much other than simply read the posts and vote at the end: it’s not a lot of work.

I’ll play Jury. Sounds like some fun.

Sounds cool. Sign me up as a player!

Oooo, siiiign me up as a jury, but if needed I can also be a player!

Can I call a player? Sign me up!

Sign me up as jury

I don’t really mind being either, tho a fair warning that as a player I’m likely to come up with very silly theories.
The parameters that determines what “the best” is are very subjective in the end.

Silliness is probably to your favor. I hope everyone has a sack of tiny bombs on hand.

Oh nice idea! Sign me up. Prefer to be a player.

I would love to play! I would prefer jury but I’d be find with player.

Preference for player, will be jury.

EDIT:

Preference for player, can be jury.

I am curious, would the players be arguing to prove their theory as correct? And would there be a judge?

Then I would be preferably a player.

That was the idea when I started designing, but the rules became very complicated for an “Alpha version.” For this time, the jury will freely vote, and whoever gets the most votes wins. Depending on people’s response to this version, I’d like to make a version more based on having solid evidence in the future.

We’re currently sitting at 5 players and 4 jury members. I can be flexible with the jury. They’re only relevant at the end, so we can add people during the game. I’ll throw up the intro post in a few hours.

“Welcome, mortals, to my simple abode.”

You hear a high pitched voice echo inside your head. Your mind feels like it’s in a daze when you attempt to open your eyes and search for the voice’s origin. When you finally get a grasp of your surroundings, you can only see four strangers who appear just as confused as you. Before anyone speaks, a great rumble is heard, and you discover the figure of a tall man rising out of a flaming crack in the ground some distance away from your group.

“Is everyone awake? Marvelous! I am Ukoback. You may not know of a lower demon as myself, but I know a lot about you. I hear you are all acquainted with the great Lady Beatrice and the powerful demons who serve her. ”

The figure starts taking long strides towards you at the same time as the smell of sulfur seeps into your nostrils. You can’t help but notice what appears to numerous disfigured beings writing in the plume of smoke behind the one who spoke to you. You want to convince yourself that they are only shadows, but their bright, piercing eyes make it impossible.

“Attention please.”

The tall figure speaks in a calm voice, but he is now close enough for you to see the rows of sharp teeth that shape his disturbing smile.

“Just like the accomplished witches and voyagers, we lesser demons must also deal with the omnipotent poison of boredom. Therefore, I have brought the five of you to this humble courtroom of ours; we will have you settle a little dispute before you continue with your brief time in the human realm. Because I know how much a measly day is worth to a mortal, I will simply explain the rules of our game”

Game

At a grand hotel in Japan, a middle-aged man has been found with a clear bullet wound to his head. Perhaps it is to be expected that someone will lose their life where there is a gathering for firearm fanatics nearby. Your role as players is to look at the known details about the last night he spent with four friends and then decide who committed this heinous act. Below are the pieces relevant to the game. Everyone is at least acquainted with the others; however, saying more would spoil the fun of the game.

[VICTIM] Atomu Kurogane, 黒金あとむ: Male, 42. An everyday man for the most part though somewhat misfortunate. He is divorced, and his ex wife started a new family with their daughter and another man. He has brought a retro-style handgun with him for appraisal on the trip.

Sougen Tsukimoto, 突元宗源: Male, 49. He used to be an aggressive prosecutor and now runs a widely recognized law firm. One of his greatest defeats in court came at the hands of Jurakuin and Kurogane; that was the first time the three of them met. Even among the other pieces, he is quite wealthy.

Hideki Honda, 本多秀樹: Male, 33. Kurogane was previously Honda’s mentor at a company. Kurogane took the blame for a fatal mistake allowing Honda to keep climbing the corporate ladder. By now, Honda is among the most important people at the company. He has recently been suspected of being involved in illegal drug businesses, so the police are investigating him currently.

Makoto Jurakuin, 受楽院真: Male, 46. He’s a co-owner of a law firm rivaling Tsukimoto. He previously worked as a defense attorney, but he was not especially successful. He shares Kurogane’s enthusiasm for firearms. It was he who suggested this trip in the first place to Kurogane telling him to also invite any friends he wanted.

Karen Enjou, 煙上火恋: Female, 28. A famous spokesman against drug use especially directed against youth. She has known Kurogane since she was a teenager. She’s publically known as having gotten out of a hard addiction, and Kurogane is credited as having been a great help in this, but his names is not mentioned on his own request. She has earned a reputation as a perfume fanatic as she consumes exotic ones in large quantities.

We also know a number of events that occurred. Sadly, we can not confirmed which piece did what.

  • All 5 pieces were drinking together in the hotel bar up until 22:00.
  • At 22:00, Piece B helped Piece E back to their room.
  • At 22:05, Piece A went outside to the back of the hotel where they smoked an special mixture of drugs.
  • Piece C went to Piece D’s room for a romantic visit at 22:30.
  • Piece B received a business call at 22:45. It became quite heated with profanities and even death threats.
  • Piece E needed help to get back to their room where they collapsed in a drunken haze. They regained consciousness at 01:00.
  • Piece A spent some time in the hotel casino but was thrown out for bad behavior at 01:30.
  • Room Service was delivered to Piece D’s room at 1:50. Piece D answered the door nervously and made sure the bellhop didn’t enter the room.
  • The culprit pulled the trigger in Kurogane’s room at 02:00. The murder weapon was the gun Kurogane had brought with him. The room’s door was simply closed and showed no sign of break in.

Now for what you are expected to do with this information. I wish for you to see yourselves as prosecutors who will find which piece should rightfully receive the punishment for Mr. Kurogane’s death. Everyone presents a solution, and my peers will choose one of those to be elevated to purple truth through my authority.

All solutions must contain the following: The name of the culprit, A fully detailed list of which name is represented by which letter in the above schedule. Note that the definition of “culprit” in this game is “The person who pulled the trigger.” This means that while accomplices are still allowed, their actions will be ignored when carrying out the punishment of the culprit. Here is an example solution:

Culprit: Aspirety

Piece A = Aspirety
Piece B = Pepe
Piece C = Seraphitic
Piece D = Pictoshark
Piece E = NotKyon

This is the bare minimum that a solution needs, but you will most likely need something much more colorful in order to earn votes from the demon jury. No one knows what will tickle their fancy, so be creative when appealing to them.

You are free to prosecute any piece, but I have generously decided to give you all some help on the way to a possible solution. Each player have privately received the name of a single piece. This piece is your individual executioner’s target. This is important for when we decide which player amongst you is the ultimate winner.

Winning the Game

The piece chosen as the rightful culprit will be executed which will lead to one of two outcomes.

  • If the executed culprit was the correct one, the player(s) who presented the chosen solution is declared the winner.
  • If the executed piece wasn’t the correct one, the player who had that piece as their executioner’s target will be declared the winner no matter who presented the chosen theory.

“As long as no one fails to perform their duty as prosecutor, this game will most certainly have a winner. However, you mustn’t be careless and lead someone else’s target to their death, or you will be stripped of any and all glory. “

(Tibalt the Fiend Blooded by Chase Stone)

“What is this? Someone using purple? Hihihi, looks like our dear friend Ukoback here doesn’t know how things work around here. Only a culprit - a person who murders - may use the purple freely!”

The big grin on Ukoback’s face grew impossibly large. Looking at the innumerable, triangular teeth, the image of a shark involuntarily conquers your imagination. But the demon did not assault the young man who had spoken back to it. Instead, Ukoback lifted his coat and grabbed the hilt of a dagger with his eerily long fingers. When he held it up to the light, you could see that the dagger lacked a guard and looked more like an bejeweled kitchen knife. It was clear by the design that this was not a weapon made for wounding an opponent; rather, this was a tool made for torturing a helpless victim. With the knife in the air, Ukoback opened his mouth again, but his voice was now several degrees deeper than before

”I am a demon you putrid bag of flesh. I caused more pain and death than any war your pitiful race has ever raised. Nonetheless, if you insist on me taking a life…”

As soon as the words had left the demon’s lips, the knife in his hand turned to dust. The next moment however, the young man fell over with the same knife lodged in his forehead. Before your mind fully grasped what had befallen in front of you, the body burst into a purple flame. You caught a quick glance at paper note in the air. There was some form of writing on it, but flared up before you could see what it said.

@karifean is eliminated from the game

*”It would seem we are down to a mere four players, but that makes no difference. Let the game begin!”

The first task is for players to decide which piece they wish to prosecute. Please declare in green text “I wish to prosecute X” within 48 hours. Up until that point you may use this topic to discuss, speculate and form teams if you wish. Keep in mind that forming a team with someone will not give you right to that person’s executioner’s target, so they serve very little purpose.

You didn’t see anything. Continue thinking about who to prosecute.

So, we can form whatever theories we want here right? The convincing jury part is not noe

Yeah, you can pretty much do whatever now. When everyone has chosen who to prosecute, I’ll give some time to write a interesting solution(not sure how long: maybe a day, maybe a week). When everyone has posted a solution, the voting begins.
