General Pokémon topic

Hey, Rika,

I’ve heard that they’re supposedly making a third game for SuMo called Pokemon Stars that seems to be along the lines of being a different storyline. Do you know if that’s true or not?

Yo!

I’ve heard that as well, that it also might be for the Switch, but nothing is in stone yet soo who knows right now. :frowning:

Ooh, a Pokémon topic! So first, all those questions:

What is your favorite Pokémon and why?
I usually answer ‘Pikachu’ to this question but to be honest, that’s kinda just to have an answer nowadays. And thinking about it again is a daunting task, what with 801 Pokémon now existing.

What is your favorite main series or spin-off game?
For main series, Pokémon Sun and Moon, the story blew me away.
For spin-off, I actually quite enjoyed watching TV with Pikachu, also known as Pokémon Channel, but that’s not my favorite. My favorite would be Pokémon XD, with Coliseum being the close second. Also, Mirror B (and his themes) from those games is the best character. Another spin-off game I like to come back to is the Pokémon Trading Card game for the GBC.

What is your favorite generation and why?
I don’t really favor one gen’s Pokémon over the other, I can only say it’s not gen 5, but only because I didn’t play Pokémon during that generation and thus have not a huge connection to it.

What is your favorite starter?
Greninja, because Ninjas are cool. Maybe we get a pirate starter at some point for the ultimate showdown :stuck_out_tongue:

dream team and Pokémon Showdown
I’m not really a competitive player. Only thing I did was copy one team in gen 6 from a video introducing people into the competitive scene, and all that time spend breeding is just too much time investment and too dull gameplay for my liking.

Have you played any fan games?
I read Let’s Plays of both moemon leafgreen and touhoumon, does that count? And I also played other monster collect type of games.

Are you hyped for gen 7?
Well, I liked gen 7, but there’s also a few things I don’t like about it, mainly that grinding to level 100 is very tedious and that there isn’t (yet?) a national dex.

Do you nickname your Pokémon?
I started to nickname every Legendary I caught myself and planned on keeping starting from gen 6 and am usually trying to come up with general themes for legendaries of the same group (i.e. naming the lake trio after another trio, in this case the three goddesses from Zelda lore). Thanks to that, I often ask my mom if she can nickname spare Legendaries only she can get and can give away to me. Otherwise, I’m a purist and don’t really nickname any other Pokémon most of the time.

Pokémon Go?
I’m way too lazy to actually go out to collect Pokémon if I can do the same thing with the main games, so I’m not playing Pokémon Go.

EDIT:
So I’m finally continuing my Pokémon Platin playthrough, mainly to get some legendaries over to the most recent generation (gen 4 to gen 5 is still possible, right?) and I ventured into this game’s game corner/casino/arcade. Which was censored in the German version because it would otherwise go against child safety (because it would promote gambling). Coins are still a thing in that game, you just find some randomly by checking the slot machines. Or buying them outright.
That got me to thinking: In which countries was that stuff censored as well and when did Nintendo start to just get rid of game corners and casinos and the like in general? I mean, I faintly remember that Heartgold/Soulsilver had Voltorb Flip as an alternative, but what did the gen 5 games do? As I stopped playing Pokémon during that generation, I don’t know myself.

Hi. I’m new here of course but this seems like a good topic for me to post in,. I’ve been a fan of this franchise for quite some time.

I can’t answer most of the questions, but I might edit some of my favorite pokemon in later.

I would be willing to play showdown with people. I have not played any fangames.

I was incredibly hyped for Gen VII. The air’s out of the balloon now but I had a very good time with Sun for the most part.

It’s Pikachu Day (2/5) today so I wanted to celebrate by taking a photo of all my Pikachu plushies

ULTRA SUN AND MOON THIS MONTH :push:

Though the real reason I’m posting is because I went to see movie 20 in theatres today!

It was pretty good though my only gripe was the OST. The dub replaced all but one of the original for the movie. Now the opening and ending themes are automatically replaced no matter what, but welp. It was really jarring and obvious when said track was transitioned into. Doesn’t help that I own the OST which is filled with remixes of iconic early anime themes.

Even so, I still highly recommend people to see this movie.

Definitely preordering the bluray that’s coming out next month. :hauu:

What is your favorite Pokemon and why? Aegislash. Not only does it satisfy my fascination and appreciation with all manner of blades, Aegislash is simply an extremely godly Pokemon with King’s Shield. I remember soloing Pokemon X with it, and I want to try that with other games as well. Kartana is my next favorite for the same reasons, but it’s not as broken.

What is your favorite main series or spin-off game? Pokemon Sun, easily. Bright, shining colors in a tropical region and a heavy emphasis on plot make it a great game for me. It’s made even better by the steep but fair level curve, making every fight tense and thrilling as I try to formulate strategies instead of relying on super effective moves as I have since I was a child.

What is your favorite generation and why? Generation 7 by a long shot, mostly for the removal of HMs.

What is your favorite starter? Feraligatr. It has access to Ice Punch and Earthquake, immediately nullifying it’s weaknesses while also looking like a monstrous beast, which I can’t get enough of in Pokemon.

What is your dream team? I solo games as much as possible, but if forced to make a team it’d be Aegislash, Gardevoir, Salazzle, Lapras, Skarmory, and Garchomp.

Would you like to play with others on pokemon showdown? Maybe, though I’m far from a competitive battler.

Have you played any fan games? Right now I’m playing through Pokemon Insurgence, my only fan game so far.

Are you hyped for gen 7? Ultra Sun and Moon, yes. :hahaha:

What is your favorite Pokemon and why?

Gengar, since I played gen 1. Despite being a spooky ghost pokemon, the shadow beast also has a playful side, always laughing with the other ghosts.

What is your favorite main series or spin-off game?

G/S/C. Gen 2 is my absolute favorite and the one I played the most. My best team when I was a kid was on crystal, and my friends and I made huge battle competitions at school.

What is your favorite generation and why?

Gen I. Nostalgia at its best :stuck_out_tongue:

What is your favorite starter?

Its a tough competition between Charizard and Delphox, but the giant lizard wins out.

What is your dream team?

This is tough. Just going for personal preference and not competitive stats: Gengar, Kingdra, Gardevoir, Lucario, Altaria, Houndoom.

Would you like to play with others on pokemon showdown?

Not interested in competitive.

Have you played any fan games?

Not yet.

Are you hyped for gen 7?

For USUM, very much!

What is your favorite Pokemon and why?

This is such as tough question. You don’t seriously expect me to choose ONE? I’ll go ahead and name ten Pokemon that I love.

  1. Togekiss - lovely design, great moveset, ability, typing
  2. Gible - cute little dragon, I love the colors
  3. Mega Charizard X - looks f-ing amazing and it’s an actual dragon
  4. Yveltal - I simply love the design and the color combination. It’s also literally Pokemon of destruction.
  5. Sylveon - cute Fairy type, I really like the design
  6. Empoleon - it’s a badass steel/water type, what more do you want?
  7. Snivy - this Pokemon just has so much personality, and I love how smug it looks. Also I love grass types in general.
  8. Zoroark - a wild beast that can manifest illusions? It’s simply amazing
  9. Lycanroc-Midnight - a werewolf-like Pokemon that looks edgy af. Love it
  10. Talonflame - a badass fire/flying type, one of the best, if not the best regional starting birds

What is your favorite main series or spin-off game?

Main series: Pokemon Platinum.
Spin-off: Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness/Time/Sky

What is your favorite generation and why?

Gen 4. Amazing region, mythology-heavy and overall lots of Pokemon that I just like.

What is your favorite starter?

Aaaah, let’s say Turtwig.

What is your dream team?

Empoleon, Togekiss, Sylveon, Zoroark, Talonflame and Mega Charizard X.

Would you like to play with others on pokemon showdown?

Sure, why not?

Have you played any fan games?

Plenty of them.

Are you hyped for gen 7?

Not very hyped for USUM, but I guess I am looking forward to gen 8.

What is your favorite Pokemon and why?

Wobbuffet. He’s just so silly! He’s really funny in the anime, and he’s kind of just this adorable blue blob. I love him.

What is your favorite main series or spin-off game?

My favorite main series game is Pokemon Platinum, although from a critical and objective standpoint, I’d say the BEST games are either HeartGold/Soulsilver or Black/White.

My favorite of the spinoffs is Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, particularly the Explorers trilogy. I also have a soft spot for Pokemon Snap.

What is your favorite generation and why?

Gen IV. I grew up with it, it has the best Pokemon roster, it’s the most consistent generation, and it had the most significant technological advancements. The physical special split, Masuda method, ONLINE WIFI AND TRADING. Gen IV improved everything. I haven’t played Gen II or Gen VII, but I’d rank the other Gens IV>III=V>VI>I.

What is your favorite starter?

My homeboy Turtwig.

What is your dream team?

Wobbuffet, Gardevoir, Roserade, Togekiss, Poliwrath, Staraptor.

Would you like to play with others on pokemon showdown?

Yeahhhh buddy

Have you played any fan games?

Nope.

Are you hyped for gen 7?

Yeah, but I have to finish Sun and Moon before I play USUM.

I am old. I grew up with the very first generation and only own the Red, Yellow, Gold, Saphire and the Black edition (black because I wanted to see how far Pokémon had evolved while I wasn’t looking).
So don’t ask me about your new critters and mega-evolutions. In my time there were only 151 Pokémon and you had to catch them with hollowed-out nuts like a real man! Or… primary school age boy… for that matter…

What is your favorite Pokemon and why?
Magikarp!

Don’t look at me like that! I just think it embodies the concept of Pokémon the best. You have that useless little critter and with a lot of sweat and grindy agony it evolves into a giant murder machine. What is there not to like?

(the very enjoyable source story of that pic is to be found here: http://thepunchlineismachismo.com/archives/comic/02222010
You won’t regret it, Jared and Mr. Fish are absolutely hilarious)

What is your favorite main series or spin-off game? Merged with the Question for the Generation
My favourite should be the Gold edition (or rather, the second generation in general). Two regions to explore, all the new and the old Pokémon and therefore a great sense of continuity! I have heard HeartGold and SoulSilver are even better.

What is your favorite starter?
I tend to take the firestarters… so… I have to say Charmander! If only Charizard would loose a little weight…

What is your dream team?
Tough question. I can’t think of any one that I always tend to keep around, because usually I am constantly switching around my roster to evolve some or another.
There is a little story about how I trolled the Elite 4 in my Gold edition really hard. I was a noob and thought that fisherman at Lake Rage would give you anything better than a bloody Ether if you’d show him a really large Magikarp (spoiler: He doesn’t), so kept catching them and catching them, but didn’t know what to do with them afterwards. Releasing them seemed like a waste, so…
… I blasted my way through the Elite Four with a team only made up of Gyarados. Wahahaha!

Okay, If I am supposed to be serious, let’s try a team made up of Pokémon I have a deep connection to:

  1. Machamp, my only Pokémon I ever evolved through trade. You see, I don’t have any friends…
  2. Mr. Fish, ever since I have read Manly Guys doing Manly Things, I just have to name one of my Magikarps Mr. Fish.
  3. Starbuck, a Haunter I have used while hunting Entei like an utter maniac. I was still vastly underleveled, so while Starbuck managed to force the bastard to keep in the battle, Entei always killed me. I chose the name first and foremost as a Moby Dick reference, but admittedly, since Haunters are named ‘Alpollo’ in German, it doubles as a Battlestar Galactica reference… XD
  4. Typhlosion, of course if this is a Gold edition themed team, I have to take the 2. generation starter with me)
  5. Pikachu, the fat rat from the Yellow edition. For some reason my Pikachu glitched after I dumped it at the PC once and it always kept a negative affection value because of it. Because of this fucker they denied me the bulbasaur (because you need to pass an affection check to get it) and in return, I have to send Pikachu into every battle in the vain hope that one day it will start to like me again.
  6. Magneton, because for some odd reason, I really love that overpowered little murder drone. Can’t exactly say why. Maybe I just like the steel type in general.

Would you like to play with others on pokemon showdown?
Nah, I’m not a competetive player.

Have you played any fan games?
I have played Pokémon Zeta when that whole Pokémon Go hype reached out to me. It was really fun. Shame I never got to the second region though.

Are you hyped for gen 7?
Not really, no…

I remember reading that you should never do that in a guide once, so that negative affection value might have been intended.
