I pick up on that change of expression, and try to see the reaction of a particular person.
"Karifean, it seems you have something important to say. But before that, there’s something I need to clarify about the sound…Sabakichi-san, could you tell me roughly when you woke up after drifting ashore? An estimate is fine. Can you describe where you woke up? Kanon-san, where did you find him?
Now, I do not mean to accuse you of any wrongdoing Sabakichi-san. It’s just that you may have witnessed something very, very important."
“A very good point; all of us had alibis during the time that we all heard that sound. Well, all except for Hachijou herself. While I do not think it would be likely that Hachijou would commit her own befall, we cannot rule out this possibility.”
Pepe addresses Battler
“Son, you knew Hachijou, and the mansion quite well. Do you have any thoughts as to how that sound could have been made?”
【Shannon】
「Once every day, in the morning before she enters, normally. I did not do that today, considering the circumstances…」
【Sabakichi】
「Hmm… I didn’t arrive until earlier this morning. It was daylight out, but I’m not sure what time or how long I’ve been around. I didn’t see anything or anybody on the island while I was walking around though, except for Kanon-san’s little house. Let’s see, I think I was walking around the northeastern part of this island.」
【Kanon】
「I found him peeking through the window of the house Hachijo lets me stay in…」
(Shannon looks over at Kanon, seemingly wanting to sympathetically say “That’s your house Kanon-kun…” but refrains from doing so.)
【Battler】
「Hmm… I don’t think so. When we visited her office earlier, the window was shut tight with no signs of water having entered, so I don’t think a contraption could have been set up there. Oh! What if someone put something up on the roof? Maybe a device could have been setup there… err, wait, but it was raining, so how would it have been stabilized?」
Battler appears to be frustrated and thinking very hard. He probably doesn’t want to think that anyone here was the culprit…
「Could… there be someone else on this island?」
Apparently Battler wants to take a different direction.

I almost missed somebody addressing a NPC earlier, so I would like to ask that players to @-mention me when addressing a NPC. (e.g., “Shannon (@NotKyon), what color are your… writing utensils.” Which would allow me to see the post easily, so I could respond with “It’s loli colored.”)

Shannon-san, can you please go check wherever you keep used towels to see if any towels might have been placed there without your or Kanon-san’s knowledge?

The thing about the “Hachijo triggered the sound” theory is that we must have found some sort of trace of the contraption or weapon used to do so. Has anyone who investigated the tree found such a thing? Could any such contraption, provided it wasn’t in her office, be anywhere but the tree?
@Karifean , please do tell us what seems to have surprised you so.
“Well put simply, it seems Hachijo was called out to come to the tree at a rather specific time. I originally thought the culprit had planned to meet her personally, but it could also have been part of a plan to set off a timed trap. Though that sounds like quite a risky plan…”
“That reminds me… last time we sat together like this, @ghagler mentioned something interesting.”
“You wouldn’t happen to have found anything out regarding this mystery person, would you?”
@HeliosAlpha where do you think that passage led to in the basement? We didn’t manage to explore at all, and I checked the basement already and found no hints of a secret passage or anything of the sort.
While investigating the garden we didn’t see anything out of the ordinary. I had obtained the key to the shed earlier and investigated it, but did not find anything note worthy. Merely a break area for the gardener. I had a hunch that the killer might have used some tools to move the body, but only a small step ladder was there.
“I’m afraid not,” I said, sighing. “Quite strange, don’t you think? If there’s supposedly another person on the island, there’d have to be a way for them to get around and a place to sleep. Maybe the basement passage will reveal more.”
Taking a glance at Kanon (@NotKyon): “Kanon, do you know if there’s any other cabins like yours on the island, or other places to stay besides the mansion? Or, perhaps, have you heard about a lady in black with golden hair in an island legend?”
“I only caught a glance, and I didn’t get the chance to follow her, so no. At least, she wasn’t heading out the front door, but I can’t say anything beyond that.”
【Kanon】
「There are no other cabins which I am aware of. Only the gardening shed could be considered like that. There’s also a gazebo in the grove of trees to the east, but… neither of those are very livable.」
「A lady in black with golden hair… ? Isn’t that just Hachijo cosplaying?」
This investigation will conclude on 2016-05-19 at 00:00 PST (UTC-8). Extra time might be given if there are significant scheduling issues between players (or myself ;_;). It will conclude earlier if all players have exhausted their investigation points for this round (or they declare they are no longer interested in this round’s investigation).
Question to almighty @NotKyon: I’m still awaiting a response for my discreet action from last investigation. My character can’t really progress forward with the next investigation until I receive an answer, so am I to assume it just ends abruptly?
