Introduce Yourself!

@Scorch Welcome to Rokkenjima!! Since you speak Russian, I’m guessing you’ve heard of Umineko Project? It’s got a Russian translation and an English translation.

Yeah, it’s well-known project. They advertised themselves on Russian-speaking imageboards 5 years ago.

Welcome to our humble community @Scorch! I hope this can become a place you enjoy being a part of.

Greetings, everyone! I’m Aurarcane. I live in the southern part of Germany and have become quite a big fan of 07th expansion works in the last 2 years. Well, I first watched the Higurashi anime (I believe that’s how most people in the community discovered 07th expansion) after which I’ve read through Umineko.

As it turns out the latter has become my favourite piece of fiction and I wonder if I will ever stumble upon anything that comes close to it. I also started reading through the visual novel of Higurashi (which, while the anime is well-done, is in my opinion the best way to experience Ryuukishi’s works) and finished Meakashi a few days ago so I’m currently waiting for the steam releases of the last 3 answer arcs. Of course I’m also planning on reading through other 07th expansion works like Higabana and Rose Guns Days.

I discovered this forum after searching for a place to discuss WTC a while back but I’ve remained a lurker for quite some time, haha. Well, I have to say the Rokkenjima community seems very welcoming so why not join in?

I’m really looking forward to discuss the 07th expansion works and mostly the WTC series with all of you! I’m also very excited for When They Cry 5 as it will be the first time for me (and probably many others) to be able to join the discussions about the episodes as they are released.

Hello, friends. I’m Hachi. I first got into 07th expansion back when I first got into anime back in 2012. I started out looking for anime to binge watch and I fell in love with the Higurashi anime. From there, I tried to find more anime Like Higurashi and I found Umineko. I was dissatisfied with the anime because of it’s clearly unfinished story. After a bit of research, I found out the the anime was based off of a visual novel. I wasn’t, and am still not too keen on reading, but I found the story interesting enough to read all the way through. This may have been the best decision of my life, because Umineko has been a part of my life ever since I found it 5 years ago. It’s my number one recommendation whenever someone wants to get into a visual novel. My friend even started a tradition. When one of our friends reads through Umineko, we have them develop a theory about who the culprit is. They then have to create a riddle that we have to solve in order to find out who they think the culprit is. It’s a very fun tradition and fits very well with the theme of Umineko. I absolutely adore this series above any other thing I’ve read or watched.

In my free time, I like to play games. Among my favorites are Starcraft 2, Counter Strike, League of Legends, Sc2 Mafia, Hearthstone, The Binding of Isaac, and 100% Orange Juice. I love finding unconventional routes to victory in most games, so as a result I don’t win much. It’s about the journey, though. Not the destination.

Conversation is not a strong suit of mine, but I like to think of myself as a good listener. I love hearing other people’s stories. I’m pretty much always down to play something, if you’d like to play games. I’m the kind of player that would play support to let you play the fun roles. Don’t worry, man. I wouldn’t DREAM of allowing you to come to harm.

@Hachi That tradition you have is awesome! I wish I had a circle of friends half as interested in Umineko

Welcome to both of you, @Hachi and @Aurarcane! It’s great to have you join us, and I hope we can count on your to join us for the Meakashi Tea Party we’re hosting right now! We’re even giving away some prizes atm that may interest you.

@Hachi That Umineko tradition sounds fun, maybe I’ll try doing that myself at some point. I’m pretty similar when it comes to games: unconventional ways to attempt to win (key word: attempt) are my way to go.

Hey, nice to see some other people from Germany here.
Hopefully you will enjoy your stay on Rokkenjima :bern:

Well, um, Hi there! I’m Hanyuu. I am a huge geek for both Higurashi and Umineko.

I actually discovered Higurashi inadvertedly while watching the Kumikyoku Nico Nico Douga Medley when I was eight. It wasn’t until I was 10 that I found out where that one little chunk of Dear You came from, and once I was 12 I finally found a place to watch the full series (YouTube, before the big copyright protests). This anime broke my innocence, through and through. Not only that, but it also helped me improved my writing in the horror genre, since Japan loves the psychological type of horror, which I’ve rarely seen in American films at the time. Higurashi also helped me get used to subbed anime (though I did start with the dub). I fell in love with the anime ever since.

I didn’t find Umineko until about two years later when I was reading the intros to the arcs of Higurashi, and learned about Bernkastel. A character like her made me intruigued. The rest is vague, but I grew to love this series as well. I watched the anime for the fast pace, but went to the VN after the last episode to fill in any holes the anime left in the first four arcs.

I am also a part of a fandub project for Higurashi Kai.

Welcome in this small corner of the internet! We’re currently in the Meakashi Tea Party, basically reading that arc and getting together as a community to discuss it, so feel free to chime in in the discussion topics, they’re currently pinned so they should be easy to find. If you’re on the creative side, any kind of fanart or other types of fan products are also highly appreciated. Either way, I hope you enjoy it here!

I’ve been searching for years for a place like this. Not kidding. Anybody I’ve tried to rope into this fanbase didn’t like the repetitiveness of it, so I’ve felt alone when it came for my passion towards the series. I am pretty damn good art drawing, but fanart is rare from somebody like me. I did make a fanfiction three years ago…I hope it isn’t as bad as I remember it.

Could you show your art gallery, please?

Yes! Please share your fan art, as you can win a prize! I’m sure Aspi will love using these in future tea parties. You can win a prize for our current tea party, Meakashi (I’m certain future tea parties will have prizes too)! Read all about it here. There’s a section for posting Higurashi fanart, as well as Umineko fanart! There’s also Higanbana, Hotarubi and Rose Guns Days! And if you don’t feel like fanart, there’s also a literary bar for fanfics/writing in general.

But yeah, I understand your feelings Hanyuu. I first read Higurashi roughly five years ago at this point, but never really found a place to talk about it. Most VN sites are focused on the newer releases. I always found it kinda sad that 07th Expansion kinda got overshadowed by other VNs (which are good too, but 07th Expansion has a special place in my heart). I was elated when I heard Higurashi and Umineko were going to be rereleased for Steam, as I think the rereleases will help these VNs reach a wider audience. The crew here at Rokkenjima is incredibly passionate about 07th Expansion, and it’s nice to see the newbies try to solve the mysteries that make these visual novels so special. It’s also fun for the veterans to reread everything and realize the clues that they didn’t even know about in the first place.

Welcome to Rokkenjima Hanyuu! I hope you enjoy your stay!

I think I tossed out my old art, since I wasn’t really proud of it. But coincidentally, I do have a story turf alludes to that arc

Hello I’m Aurora. I’ve lurked here for a while and thought I might as well join, as well as many of my fellow friends also reside here. I live in the United States (Ohio), I’ve read the Umineko VN and parts of the manga and am trying to get into Higurashi VN, I’ve seen the Higurashi anime (and technically the Umineko anime, but we don’t talk about that). My favorite is and likely always will be Umineko, but we’ll have to see how WTC 5 and inevitably 6 is. I found Rokkenjima on a google search, but some people have always praised it so I’ve considered joining for a while now.

Some of my interests outside 07th Expansion include other ‘mystery’ related vns such as Danganronpa, Ace Attorney, and one day I’d like to try finishing the 999 series.I also like some games in general, but mostly older games, as I find new ones are always out of my budget, that and I just prefer them stylistically. I also do some application programming and perhaps one day I’ll even get around to making a game, unless you count Umineko Online a game, but that’s 07th Expansion related so shhhh.

Welcome once more, @Aurora! Glad to see you join us. Are you one of the creators of Umineko Online? That’s very impressive! Someday I’d like to see a danganronpa-styled RPG on the forum.

Make yourself at home!

Yes actually. I’m the head creator of that project (and another in the works that’ll be even better). It’s not all that impressive, looking back I could have done so much better, that’ll be handy later though.

I’ve been involved a few of those already so I’d be interested in that too. And thank you I will make myself at home.

Well guys ty for the opportunity in having me. The few months i spent with you was fun indeed. When it comes down to it, the whole reason i joined this community was for discord in the first place but seeing Aspirin one-sidedly kicking so called trolls, myself included while i was away, see screenshot http://i.imgur.com/zjewj9V.png without any warning from the server is quite demotivating. No i won’t be active on the forums nor am i interested in receiving the fancy titles since I’m already more than active enough on seacat subthreads at /jp/. But i guess depriving fellow like-minded fans from taking part on chat is just Aspirin’s way of things. I have always believed discussing visual novels anonymously and on equal grounds whether it is on forums or on chat makes more sense than playing rainbow goats, if you know what i mean ;). I dont like being pressured to take part on these closed forums and nowhere else just because some megalomaniac says so. And i’m sorry to say that. One might think I’m welcome to leave which is what i intend to to So yeah, have fun being an elitist server. Think whatever you may, mark me salty or delete this message to further prove my point. This was my last parting remark as Hibi nihihi.

Well Rokkenjima is a forum first and the Discord server is an addition, meant fundamentally to allow forum members to get to know each other better in a more relaxed environment. The main hub for 07th Discussion is the forum. That’s really all there is to it. Sorry if there was a misunderstanding there.

If that’s still too much, then well, that’s unfortunate. Best of luck finding a place more to your tastes.

No way!!! I live in land of the buckeye as well! It’s nice to meet another fan from the same state. It’s really interesting to hear you’re head creator of the Umineko Online project. Seriously, that’s really impressive stuff.

As I’m sure you are aware, there are plenty of fun things to do here on Rokkenjima! If you want to get into the Higurashi VN, I recommend following along with our tea parties! Aspi (and others) have hosted them all the way from Onikakushi to our current tea party, Meakashi! Once the tea parties are over there are podcasts that you can listen to (you can participate in!) that sum up the overall discussion during the tea parties. Please participate in them, as you can win cool prizes! I’ve also watched the Higurashi anime, and I can tell you that reading the VN is so much better.

I should also mention that if you want to talk about the stuff that happens later on in the anime, there are various spoiler threads where you can freely talk about stuff without worry of spoiling people.

Oh! Higurashi’s not all that’s on this site. We have Umineko too. Both places for those new to the story, and those returning to it. These are also tea parties (and have their own podcasts), and future ones will come as soon as Chiru is rereleased on Steam! I’m certain that these future tea parties will also have a lot of fun prizes to look forward to. Speaking of stuff to look forward to, we also have a hype train thread with all of the current information we know about the next WTC.

There’s a lot to do here on Rokkenjima, so I recommend you look around and get a feel for the place. Welcome to Rokkenjima!
