Share friends' theories who are new to Umineko [Full Series Spoilers]

I’ve recently made a couple of friends and family members read the VN. I really want to know what they think. I don’t want them to be goats. I’ve been given interesting theories so far. It’s kind of fun to see newbies creating theories like that, let me share some with you.

Don’t laugh at him, he’s just new to the series! These are his “most logical” takes so far.

Game 1

  • First Twilight
    Kinzo, Eva, Nanjo are allies.
The 6 bodies are real, they were poisoned.

Eva allowed Kinzo to leave his study and tried to pin it on Natsuhi.

  • Second Twilight
Eva kills Hideyoshi and pretends to be dead in a locked room she setup. Nanjo fakes Eva’s autopsy.

  • Fourth Twilight
The burnt ‘Kinzo’ was actually one of the original 6 bodies in the garden shed. The extra toe is fake.
He thinks that if the body doesn’t have a face, a switch must’ve happened.

  • Fifth Twilight
Kinzo killed Kannon. (HOLD YOUR LAUGHTER)

  • Sixth, Seventh, Eighth Twilights
Nanjo sets the letter on the table and then kills Genji and Kumasawa then pretends to die.

He also thought of alternative theories, but it’s only switching around with the suspects. He’s going to start Episode 2. Can’t wait for Beato to slice his theories with the red.

Do you have friends who are still trying to solve Umineko? Let’s discuss their theories.

I am going to have fun with this thread in a couple of days. My dear partner in crime Jokrono is currently working on a mile-long thread solving the epitaph along with his speculation on how the island has a WWII military base built underneath it (crazy right?) based on the state of the gold room in Ep3 and the presence of gold bars in the chapel in Ep2.

I’m not going to give away too much of his theory crafting past Ep1’s first ending because you should all watch his struggle on the channel, but he seems on track for a Rosa-culprit theory and out of all the 6 bodies in the garden shed he suspects basically everyone but Shannon at one time or another. Super fun stuff. I’ll link the video where we break down the mysteries for the first Episode when it comes out on Monday.

Nice topic idea! :push:

My friend has just finished ep1 and is convinced that there is a 19th person on the island.

Should I tell him that the culprit is one of the ‘18’ or not as it might be a spoiler?

I wouldn’t. Thinking that for a while is definitely part of the experience for any newcomer to mysteries IMO =P Umineko plays with that.

No, don’t reveal that! Try to fool with him the way Beato does. Send him around in circles. Ask him to explain how the 19th person would murder Eva and Hideyoshi in the room locked with the chain. It’s nothing other than MAGIC!

Yeah at the moment he’s pretty stumped at how the closed room and Natsuhi’s death could have happened.

Yeah alright, lets see him get completely confused when Beato says There are no more than 18 people on this island. (I think that’s how it was worded)

So far, everyone I encountered was fooled by “There are no more than 18 people on this island” statement during their first run through Umineko. Ryukishi07 knows how to play with words.

Now that we’ve finished Ep1 Felix and i went through our thoughts here:

and I wrote up my thoughts on his thoughts here:

I figure I’ll leave these linked for future reference, but really our entire playthrough is linked with this topic. Sitting in the room and listening to his thought process is a treat.

My boyfriend already knew who the culprit was (because I was live commenting on my reading and spoiled stuff to him and even spent 3 hours explaining what the hell Beatrice was), but he didn’t understand why or how the murders happened, nor does he know who the accomplices are. So while reading EP1 he was trying to piece together how it all happened.
I love the stupid amount of accomplices that are here tho’, because he just kept going on about figuring who was in on the murders.
But man, this was a while ago, and I barely remember how his theories went, but I’m pretty sure he got close. Plus, he was trying to ignore the fact that he knew about the culprit and tried to piece together his theories without the advantage that I gave him, lol.

Not a friend, but I read a liveread of a lady who IMMEDIATELY decided that Kanon was a trans girl and would not let it go. Also, that Umineko is socialist because of how evil money and the Ushiromiya’s were portayed (she was rooting for the servants to kill them all.)

That lady must have Will’s detective blood running through her veins. :wahaha:

It wasn’t pretty spooky honestly.

https://canmom.tumblr.com/tagged/umineko-liveread She only seems to have gotten to episode 3 though.

Oh and I forgot to say that the first thing my friend texted me when he met Kanon was ‘I wonder if he’s a reverse trap’

I burst out laughing.

Here it is. The post you’ve all been waiting for. THE SOLVING OF THE EPITAPH.

I’m incredibly impressed, a mixture of talent, some light tapping from myself and a healthy dosage of luck carried him through to the finish.

Holy fucking shit.

He’s been very meticulous with taking down his working, so you know it’s real, which is awesome.

Are you sure he hasn’t already spoiled himself? It is very impressive that he’s correct about the epitaph this early on, especially with the vague mentioning of the text above the chapel… well, he could just have analysed it a lot and come to that conclusion. Is he a fan of mystery works and such? Not that you need that to decode mysteries though, but would you say that he’s perceptive and has got an aptitude for these things?

I’m 100% certain he hasn’t spoiled himself, as he said in the discord chat he isn’t particularly good at riddles but this isn’t a “come up with the answer quickly before your friend tells it to you” situation, his solving the epitaph was much more about time spent and his stubborn nature, combined with the editing process which lets him reread parts of the story which are relevant (something i didn’t really do) and of course my egging him on during Ep3 probably didn’t hurt. He has read a few mystery novels but really he’s just very familiar with story structure and narrative design, eventually leading him to the parts of the novel with clues he could use. He also admits a large part of it was blind luck.

My friend was done with EP3.

I’ll list his theories and highlight the correct ones in red:

  • The murderer in the chained locked rooms is one of the 6.
  • Hideyoshi is Eva’s accomplice.
  • Eva killed Maria and Rosa
  • Eva killed Rudolf and Kyrie.
  • Kyrie defending herself, killed Hideyoshi
  • Eva kills Natsuhi and her husband.
  • Eva kills George.
  • He couldn’t explain Nanjo’s murder.
  • Eva kills Battler and Jessica

He found that it’s pretty weird that Kinzo’s corpse is burned every time. He also played around with the idea that somebody is pretending to be someone else. Despite being wrong, he’s already thinking outside the box. :mariaemo:
